How a Casebound Book Is Made

The printed text block is joined to the rigid case using endpapers. The outer printed wrap covers the board and forms the front, back and spine of the finished hardback book.

Why Choose Casebound?

Premium Case-Bound Books With a Rigid Printed Cover

Hardback books use a printed wrap mounted over rigid greyboard to create a durable, premium publication. They are ideal for coffee table books, annual reports, luxury catalogues, yearbooks, children’s books and family histories.

Choosing the Inner Paper

170gsm Silk is excellent for image-rich books and lower page counts. For larger books, 115gsm Silk or 120gsm Uncoated can reduce bulk and make the pages easier to turn while preserving a substantial premium feel.

Cover Construction

The case-bound cover includes a rigid board, printed wrap and white endpapers. Matt and Gloss lamination are available on the printed outer cover.

Preparing Hardback Artwork

Supply the internal pages as individual pages in reading order. The hardback cover requires a confirmed template because the front, back, spine, hinges and wraparound all affect the final artwork size.

  • Add 3mm bleed to every internal page
  • Keep important content clear of trims and binding edge
  • Supply CMYK PDF artwork where possible
  • Use high-resolution images, ideally 300dpi
  • Wait for the confirmed hardback cover template before final approval

Live Artwork Guidance

The builder estimates the book thickness and artwork spine from the page count and inner paper. These figures are useful for planning, while the final manufacturing measurements are confirmed by our team.
